Moreover, studies in young patients are still scarce. The aim was to examin...

In this study, the soft computing method known as fuzzy cognitive mapping was proposed for diagnosis of the risk of ischemic stroke. Non-linear Hebbian learning method was used for fuzzy cognitive maps training. In the proposed method, the risk rate for each person was determined based on the opinions of the neurologists. The accuracy of the proposed model was tested using 10-fold cross-validation, for 110 real cases, and the results were compared with those of support vector machine and K-nearest neighbours. The proposed system showed a superior performance with a total accuracy of (93.6 ± 4.5)%. The ...

Conclusion: The investigations allowed the identification of subgroups of deaths due to stroke. In addition to the research, however, it is important to conduct physician training in the adequate filling in of the DC, in order to improve estimates of specific stroke mortality, and to enable appropriate targeting of health actions and services.

This study explored the proportion of NAFLD cases and increased liver fibrosis (LF), and the association between LF and either chronic kidney disease (CKD) or cardiovascular complications in T2DM patients. METHODS: - The study included 137 patients with non-insulin-treated T2DM and no known liver disease consecutively attending our diabetes outpatients service who underwent liver ultrasonography and liver stiffness measurement (LSM) using vibration-controlled transient elastography (FibroScan®). RESULTS: - The proportion of patients with hepatic steatosis on ultrasonography was 73.7%, and the proportion with ...

This study is a cross-sectional study from the China National Stroke Registry that included consecutive patients with ischemic stroke or intracerebral hemorrhage between August 2007 and September 2008. We compared the risk profile between the two subgroups using multivariable logistic regression. Results: A total of 1,135 patients with SAO stroke and 1,125 dICH patients were included for analyses. Generally, patients with SAO stroke were more likely to be male (odds ratio = 0.74, confidence interval = 0.58–0.94) and have diabetes (0.30, 0.22–0.40), higher atherogenic lipid profiles, higher body mass index (0.96,...

Conclusions: Baseline RDW should be integrated into clinical practice as a predictor of ischemic stroke occurrence and outcome. Future studies should also explore the dynamic change of RDW in post-stroke patients to evaluate the clinical significance of RDW and its impact on the inflammatory state of ischemic stroke.

Conclusions: Leukocyte count is associated with short-term and long-term clinical outcomes of acute ischemic stroke and may have predictive value, especially in patients with certain specific characteristics.

Authors: Du Z, Bian W, Wu S, Gao B, Sun Y, Kang Z, Zhang X Abstract Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of blood pressure (BP) goals on cardiovascular outcomes in hypertensive patients. Material and methods: Primary hypertensive patients were retrospectively enrolled from outpatient clinics. The demographics, comorbidities, laboratory parameters and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) were collected. All participants were followed for 1 year. Cardiovascular outcomes included composite of all-cause mortality, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and non-fatal ischemic stroke/transient ischemi...

Authors: Chen Z, Jiang C, Qu H, Liang S, Yang J, Wu H, He C, Wang X Abstract Introduction: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association between lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatment. Material and methods: This was a retrospective study. The demographics, prior medical histories, comorbidities and laboratory parameters were collected from the electronic health record. All participants were followed up for 1 year after the indexed PCI. Studied end points were a composite of MACEs including all-caus...
