Predicting cardiac resynchronization therapy outcomes: It is more than just left bundle branch block

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is a cornerstone of therapy for the treatment of heart failure (HF) with a reduced ejection fraction with QRS prolongation. A large multicenter randomized trial established the benefit of CRT in appropriate cohorts to reduce HF hospitalization and mortality as well as to improve quality of life, exercise tolerance, and functional status. Despite these impressive results, much focus has recently been directed toward identifying nonresponders, which is commonly stated as constituting 30% of all patients receiving CRT.
