Abstract Echocardiographic deformation imaging is an emerging clinical method, which allows quantifying global and regional myocardial function. Its potential has been demonstrated in a large number of research settings, and it is now approaching routine clinical practice. This review provides an update on the recent developments in the field of deformation imaging and highlights current and potential future clinical applications of this promising technique.
