Influence of Disc Size on the Diagnostic Accuracy of Cirrus Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography in Glaucoma.

Conclusions: The high diagnostic accuracy of the rim area demonstrated by Cirrus HD-OCT for the quantitative assessment of the ONH was not significantly affected by disc size in this study. PMID: 29850207 [PubMed]

AbstractPurpose of ReviewTo consider the relative importance of factors associated with post-keratoplasty endothelial cell loss.Recent FindingsLamellar keratoplasty continues to supplant penetrating keratoplasty. When host endothelium is healthy, retaining it with deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty significantly reduces long-term endothelial cell loss. Endothelial keratoplasty and penetrating keratoplasty differ fundamentally in relative rates of early and late central endothelial cell loss, yet at 10  years, their cumulative cell loss is similarly substantial. The greatest risk factor for post-keratoplasty endotheli...

Glaucoma is one of the major causes of blindness, and transforming growth factor-β2 (TGF-β2) has been found to be elevated in the aqueous humor of eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). TGF-β2 in aqueous humor causes the glaucoma-related fibrosis of human trabecular meshwork (HTM), suggesting an important role of TGF-β in POAG pathogenesis. Here, we sought to elucidate the effects of IL-6 trans-signaling on TGF-β signaling in HTM cells. Using a multiplex immunoassay, POAG patients decreased IL-6 levels and increased soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R) levels compared with the controls. In in vitr...

Abstract We analysed the 100 top cited articles in ophthalmology to identify and characterise the most influential articles of the past four decades. Two independent investigators searched the Scopus database to determine the 100 most frequently cited articles in ophthalmology (T100-Eye) and general non-ophthalmology journals (T100-Gen) published from 1975 to December 2017. The T100-Eye list consisted of 83 original articles and 17 reviews, and the number of citations ranged from 582 to 2833. Seventy-eight of these articles were published in three journals alone (impact factor (IF): 5.05-8.2), led by the Archives ...

Herein, we report successful treatment using intracameral injection of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) in two patients with recalcitrant anterior uveitis, due to infective uveitis and Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada disease, respectively. A 40-year-old woman presented with bilateral redness...
