Influence of Disc Size on the Diagnostic Accuracy of Cirrus Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography in Glaucoma.

Conclusions: The high diagnostic accuracy of the rim area demonstrated by Cirrus HD-OCT for the quantitative assessment of the ONH was not significantly affected by disc size in this study. PMID: 29850207 [PubMed]

Benet, Tim D. Spector, Chris J. HammondAbstractElevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is an important risk factor for glaucoma. Mechanisms involved in its homeostasis are not well understood, but associations between metabolic factors and IOP have been reported. To investigate the relationship between levels of circulating metabolites and IOP, we performed a metabolome-wide association using a machine learning algorithm, and then...

CONCLUSIONS: The outcome of AGV implantation is good in refractory glaucoma following PPV. Rubeosis after PPV and higher peak IOP before AGV are risk factors for poor outcomes. Patients who undergo PPV should be followed for the development of rubeosis and IOP control. PMID: 30311463 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: We can predict the long-term prognosis after AGV implantation by considering the early postoperative IOP state and the presence of a hypertensive phase. PMID: 30311462 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Romeo Villadóniga S, Rodríguez García E, Sagastagoia Epelde O, Álvarez Díaz MD, Domingo Pedrol JC Abstract Purpose: To assess the effects of antioxidant oral supplementation based on docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in pseudoexfoliative (PEX) glaucoma. Patients and Methods: A prospective 6-month open-label randomized controlled trial was conducted in patients with PEX glaucoma and adequate intraocular pressure (IOP) control. Patients in the DHA group received a high-rich DHA (1 g) nutraceutical formulation. Ophthalmological examination, DHA erythrocyte membrane conte...

AbstractIntroductionTo characterize the reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) and IOP-lowering medication use following goniotomy via trabecular meshwork excision performed using the Kahook Dual Blade as a stand-alone procedure in adult eyes with glaucoma uncontrolled on a regimen of 1 –3 topical IOP-lowering medications.MethodsIn this retrospective analysis, data from consecutive patients undergoing goniotomy with the Kahook Dual Blade by 11 surgeons were analyzed. Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative follow-up data through 6  months of follow-up were collected. The primary efficacy endpoint was IO...

AbstractPrimary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is a complex disease with a major genetic contribution. Its prevalence varies greatly among ethnic groups, and is up to five times more frequent in black African populations compared to Europeans. So far, worldwide efforts to elucidate the genetic complexity of POAG in African populations has been limited. We conducted a genome-wide association study in 1113 POAG cases and 1826 controls from Tanzanian, South African and African American study samples. Apart from confirming evidence of association atTXNRD2 (rs16984299; OR[T] 1.20;P = 0.003), we found that a genetic ri...
