537 risk score and predictors for conscious sedation failure in patients undergoing endoscopy

The administration of IV conscious sedation to patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy carries associated risk. High doses of sedative and analgesic medications may lead to complications, and do not always provide adequate patient comfort. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for the occurrence of either high dose conscious sedation requirements or a failed procedure, and combine information from these risk factors to create a risk score that might aid the clinician in identifying patients who may need preemptive scheduling for anesthesiologist-assisted deep sedation.
