Tu1420 INCREASED RISK OF PANCREATITIS AFTER ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHY FOLLOWING A POSITIVE INTRAOPERATIVE CHOLANGIOGRAM: A SINGLE CENTER EXPERIENCE
Intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) has been increasingly used during cholecystectomy (CCY) for suspected bile duct stones. IOC can involve aggressively flushing the duct and using clearance devices such as Fogerty balloons, which could potentially increase the risk of stone impaction at the papilla, damage to the papilla, and inadvertent pancreatic duct injection. Failed clearance often leads to subsequent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The overall risk of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) has been studied, but the risk of PEP in patients who undergo ERCP following IOC has not been described.
