“Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO) State of the Art Updates and Next Questions”: MDS

In the last few months two main streams of research have dominated the panorama of myelodysplastic syndrome investigations: one deepening the insight into pathogenic role, hierarchy and prognostic impact of somatic mutations and, as a consequence, into the impact of inherited congenital predisposing conditions; the second, quite interlinked in fact to the first one, analysing inflammation and innate immunity in myelodysplastic syndrome patients. The research devoted to clarifying mechanisms of action and mechanisms of resistance to hypomethylating agents has also advanced, mostly because of different approaches to the study of DNA methylation.
