President's Message

Earlier this year the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) joined 96 other organizations to sign a letter written by the American Academy of Nursing urging congressional leaders to develop a bipartisan National Commission on Mass Shootings (American Academy of Nursing, 2018). The letter urged government leaders to address the issue of access and availability of guns, and strengthen the screening process for individuals who wished to obtain weapons. Gun violence is a public health issue, with more than 60,000 gun-related injuries or deaths occurring in the United States last year (Gun Violence Archive, 2018).
