Translation of a Vascular-Specific Cardiac Risk Stratification Tool into Practice for Patients Undergoing Open Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair

Postoperative myocardial infarction (POMI) is a common complication after open aortic abdominal aneurysm (OAAA) repair. Perioperative cardiac risk stratification informs clinicians and patients of individualized risks of surgery. The Vascular Quality Initiative Cardiac Risk Index (VQI CRI) is a validated, vascular procedure-specific risk stratification tool to calculate the probability of in-hospital POMI. This project implemented and evaluated the tool ’s usability as well as its effect on provider clinical decision-making at an academic medical center in the Mid-Atlantic region.
