Edwards Granted CE Mark For First Transcatheter Tricuspid Therapy
IRVINE, Calif., April 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Edwards Lifesciences Corporation (NYSE: EW), the global leader in patient-focused innovations for structural heart disease and critical care monitoring, today announced that it has received CE Mark for the Edwards Cardioband Tricuspid Valve Reconstruction System for the treatment of tricuspid regurgitation. The Cardioband Tricuspid System is the first commercially available transcatheter therapy for the treatment of tricuspid heart valve...This story is related to the following:Medical Devices
This article reviews the clinical application of stress echocardiography, including dobutamine, semisupine bicycle, treadmill, and leg-positive pressure for VHD patient management, and focuses on the current consensus regarding the use of stress echocardiography in VHD. Stress echocardiography is safe and should be encouraged, especially in heart valve clinics, to understand the complex mechanism in asymptomatic patients.
ConclusionWomen who undergo aortic or mitral valve replacement are less likely to achieve a pregnancy than matched counterparts without heart disease. This information, and the reasons for why this is so, can inform decisions about the timing of valve replacement and pregnancy planning.
Multivalvular heart disease (MVD) is a highly prevalent condition causing significant morbidity and mortality. The complex haemodynamic interactions between coexisting valve lesions makes the diagnosis and treatment challenging. Current guidelines may not be adequate for managing the varying clinical scenarios of MVD and, therefore, the expertise of a multidisciplinary Heart Valve Team is of paramount importance. The indications for intervention should be based on a global assessment of the consequences of the multiple valve lesions after a careful estimation of the added surgical risk of combined procedures, the long-term...
ConclusionModerate-to-severe and severe TR is associated with a high-risk of hospitalization for RHF and death at 4 years and a low rate of surgery. (Fig. 1 Idiopathic TR is associated with worse outcome than other etiologies)
Publication date: Available online 28 May 2019Source: Canadian Journal of CardiologyAuthor(s): Julien Ternacle, Nancy Côté, Laura Krapf, Annabelle Nguyen, Marie-Annick Clavel, Philippe PibarotABSTRACTValvular heart calcification is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially in those receiving hemodialysis therapy, and it is associated with poor prognosis. Furthermore, progression of valvular heart disease (VHD) and structural valve deterioration of bioprosthetic valves are faster in these patients. Mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of VHD are similar between patients with and wit...
CONCLUSIONS: Educational level, distance from follow-up facility, number of follow-up visits and source of warfarin supply were found to be significantly associated with sub-optimal control of INR. PMID: 31140545 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Abstract Right-sided infective endocarditis (IE) represents 5-10% of IE. It may occur in patients with electronic intracardiac device, central venous catheter or congenital heart disease, but the most frequent situation is intravenous drug use. Prosthetic valve IE is the most severe form of IE. The diagnosis is more challenging than that of native valve IE, as is treatment, both antibiotic treatment and surgical indications. The infection of an electronic intracardiac device is a severe disease. Both diagnostic and therapeutic strategies are difficult. PMID: 31109767 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
This study, a prospective, single-arm observational clinical trial of 133 patients conducted at two clinical sites in Europe, also yielded positive results. There were no events of SVD throughout the study period, Edwards noted. The company also plans to further evaluate the new tissue platform through the RESILIENCE trial, a longer-term study that will follow 250 patients under the age of 65. That study will examine calcification levels, hemodynamic deterioration, and valve failure at years five, seven, nine and 11 as early potential predictors of valve durability.
ConclusionsThe efficacy and safety of NOACs as thromboprophylaxis for AF and VHD are similar to those of warfarin.
Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. This corresponds with peak circadian incidence of stroke and other vascular complications. These and ASED Study results show that monitoring frequency, duration, and time of day are important in ES detection. Introduction Transcranial Doppler (TCD) detected microembolism in the ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) may help stratify the risk of stroke and other arterial disease complications in persons with advanced (≥60%) asymptomatic carotid stenosis. If so, this techniqu...
