041 The female-biased factor VGLL3 drives lupus-like skin inflammation in vivo
A striking feature of many autoimmune diseases is their increased prevalence in females (e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus, female-to-male 9:1). With the female sex being the strongest known risk factor for autoimmunity, understanding the cause of female-biased susceptibility is critical to developing preventative measures. Previously, we demonstrated a female-biased molecular signature associated with susceptibility to autoimmunity, and identified VGLL3 as a female-biased factor that regulates this signature.
