Tinnitus, depression, anxiety, and suicide in recent veterans: a retrospective analysis - Martz E, Jelleberg C, Dougherty DD, Wolters C, Schneiderman A.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this project was to investigate whether there is an association between tinnitus diagnosis and suicide and whether depression and anxiety strengthen that association. Given that tinnitus is the top service-connected disability am...
ConclusionMinimal preoperative factors are associated with nonresponse for women having surgery for endometriosis. The severity of pain experienced by women with endometriosis may be used to predict their response to surgery.
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests that depression in patients was associated with increased risk of developing ventricular arrhythmias, especially in patients with CHD. Cardiologists and psychiatrists should be alert to the risk of ventricular arrhythmia in patients with depression. Moreover, the antidepressant medications (e.g., tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) that could affect heart rate variability should be used carefully. . Rates of depression and suicide are far higher in the rural US than in urban areas. Researchers at the University of New South Wales gave at-home brain stim to rural patients - but experts warn of dangers.
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether self-assessed past drinking problems - our measure of harmful alcohol consumption - affect the current alcohol consumption patterns. We expected that drinking problems in the past could have a positive effect on current alcohol consumption. Using Portuguese data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), we applied an ordered probit model, given the ordered nature of the dependent variable. Our dependent variable measures the current consumption using categories listed in ascending order of alcohol intake frequency (from less than once a month to ...
This study aims to investigate health-related quality of life (HRQOL) at baseline and at follow-up in older patients with cancer and to determine prognostic factors for HRQOL decline.MethodsA prospective Belgian multicentre (n = 22) study was performed. Patients ≥70 years with a malignant tumor and abnormal G8 (≤14/17) screening tool were included. Patients underwent geriatric assessment (GA) and HRQOL evaluation with follow up at three months. Uni- and multivariate regression models were performed to determine factors associated (p
ConclusionThis screening tool identified geriatric syndromes requiring attention in many patients with breast cancer presenting for medical oncology appointments. In oncology practice, need for referral networks to address geriatric syndromes should be assessed.
Knee replacement is a common procedure most often used to treat pain and disability caused by osteoarthritis. Deep infection is a rare but serious complication that occurs in about 1% of knee replacement patients.
Conclusions: GHB-use but in particular GHB-induced comas, are associated with altered emotion identification and hippocampal functioning. Awareness campaigns are required to raise consciousness about the adverse effects of GHB-induced comas on affect regulation, despite the absence of subjective side effects.Eur Addict Res
Conclusions: Duloxetine can protect the brain against methamphetamine withdrawal-induced mood and motor disturbances and can also inhibit methamphetamine-induced cognitive impairment, possibly via cAMP/CREB/BDNF signaling pathway. PMID: 30993081 [PubMed]
CONCLUSIONS: The current study demonstrated good results of the PRTS for unstable intra-articular fractures of the PIP joint. Furthermore, satisfactory results were obtained in cases of an incomplete amputation at the PIP joint, a pathological fracture due to bone tumor, and an osteochondral defect due to comminuted fracture of the proximal phalangeal head, where costal osteochondral bone was transplanted. From this study, the PRTS is recommended as a useful treatment because it is widely effective for various unstable fractures of the PIP joint. PMID: 30987517 [PubMed - in process]
