I am 48 yr old and am 31/2 weeks post op – I had a total vaginal hysterectomy for fibroids. I was terrified of the op – being an ex nurse, all I could think of was what could go wrong! I joined this organisation and prepared by reading as much as possible.
The week before the Op I increased my activity levels and took vitamin C and drank lots water. I had protein drinks pre op as part of an ” enhanced recovery” programme.
I felt so calm on the day of the Op – after 4 months of Zoladex to shrink my fibroids- I felt it was time to move forward. Luckily the surgeon managed to do vaginal Op but he said my fibroid was huge- it was size of 14 week pregnancy despite Zoladex! The feeling of relief was enormous when I woke up – I could feel so much more room in my abdomen!!
I recovered well – I put this down to being calm and relaxed, drinking as much water as I could and eating natural yoghurt and drinking peppermint tea. I took painkillers when offered but honestly – the pain I experienced from periods and going to the toilet pre-op was much worse than post op. I no longer felt worry – trusted that getting rid of the football fibroid was a positive thing!! Friends and family say I’ve never looked better!! I am resting lots, drinking ...
