Timing and Risk Factors Associated with Venous Thromboembolism Following Lung Cancer Resection.

CONCLUSIONS: A significant proportion of VTE events occur after hospital discharge. While there is data to suggest that risk for VTE extends beyond this period, few patients are managed with post-discharge prophylaxis. These data suggest that post-discharge prophylaxis should be considered for those at high risk for VTE, particularly for older patients, those who are obese, and following extended or lengthy resections.
