Why Cardiostim is Cancelled This Year

The cardiac electrophysiology community has lost an opportunity for professional development and networking that typically drew thousands from the sector to Nice, France every two years. The organizers of Cardiostem, which was expected to take place in June, have pulled the plug on the meeting.  The driving factor in the decision to cancel Cardiostim seems to be a recent decision by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA), part of the European Society of Cardiology, to end its 12-year partnership with Cardiostim. The EHRA has decided to host its own annual congress instead, called Europace, which is scheduled for March, in Barcelona, Spain. In 2016, Cardiostim registered 5,740 attendees from 91 countries and 60 exhibitors, according to Reed Expositions France, the event organizer.  "In spite of the extraordinary success of the congress, and the strong rate of satisfaction of the participants ... the pursuit of the congress in its current format and size, unfortunately, became impossible for 2018," Reed Expositions France said. Cardiostim was founded in 1978 by the late electrophysiology pioneer Dr. Jacques Mugica and was acquired by Reed Expositions France in 2008. Reed Expositions France noted that Cardiostim's success over the years "rested on key factors such as the systematic valuation of innovation, the space given to education, and a total independence for the choice of the themes and the speakers."
