Iodine Thyroid Blocking: Guidelines for Use in Planning for and Responding to Radiological and Nuclear Emergencies
World Health Organization. 11/2017 This 52-page document provides guidelines to assess the evidence base and provide guidance on the implementation of iodine thyroid blocking (ITB) in case of radiological or nuclear emergencies, including advice on timing and repeated administration during continuing release of radioactive iodine. It identifies the most vulnerable groups, and specifies the applicability and modalities of ITB implementation for those groups, considering the side effects and associated risks of ITB use; and identifies research gaps in relation to the ITB evidence base.
