Neonatal solid tumors: A therapeutic challenge

The incidence of neonatal cancer has been estimated to be one in every 12,500 –27,500 live births, comprising 2% of pediatric cancer.1 Cancer occurring in the neonatal period and cancer occurring in children younger than 18 years of age can be different in terms of incidence, anatomical site, histological features, clinical behavior, and treatment. Neonatal solid tumors enc ompass a group of heterogeneous neoplasms and are unique due to their origin from embryonic and immature tissues. Although the majority of neonatal solid tumors are benign, they can be fatal based on their size and location.
