Back cover story: Eur. J. Immunol. 1'18

Our back cover features the immunohistology of a lung from a C57BL/6 mouse re‐challenged with influenza A virus (IAV). In the center panel, the juxtaposition of lung epithelial cells (stained with anti‐E‐cadherin, red) and inflammatory cells (anti‐CD103, green), including migrating DCs and intraepithelial T‐cells, is displayed in addition to nuclear staining (blue). The image is taken from Yoshizawa et al. (pp. 128–150), where the authors show that airway epithelia and adjacent lamina propria locales, not iBALT, represent microenvironments for tissue resident memory T‐cell generation. Transcriptional profiling reveals differences in activation, attenuation and adhesion pathways amongst polyclonal resident effector and memory T‐cells based on an TCR‐pMHC encounter involving two immunodominant IAV epitopes.
