A comparative study on the wear behavior of a polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) material and tooth enamel

Tooth wear refers to the loss of hard tissue caused by means other than dental caries or dental trauma [1]. It is a normal physiological process occurring throughout life. Accelerated tooth wear can cause problems, such as dentine hypersensitivity, pulp exposure and even periapical diseases [2]. Lambrechts et al. reported that the wear depth of natural tooth enamel is 15 –40μm a year in normal circumstances, and that this physiological wear is of great importance for the maintenance of the stomatognathic system’s health [3].
