Zebrafish larvae could be used as 'avatars' to optimize personalized treatment of cancer

(Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown) Every cancer is unique; so is every cancer patient. How, then, is it possible to choose the most efficient chemotherapy in each case? Two Portuguese scientists decided to test the idea of using zebrafish larvae to simulate in vivo the responses of human tumors to cancer drugs, literally transforming these larvae into 'avatar' of the patients. Their first results are very promising.
