AbstractAimsTo observe the effects of saxagliptin on the expression of mitogen-activated protein kinase 38 (p38MAPK), nephrin and podocin in renal tissue in type 2 diabetic (T2DM) rats, and to explore the possible mechanism of its renal protection.MethodsForty-eight male Sprague –Dawley rats were used for the study and divided into four different groups: normal controls (Group NC), DM controls (Group DM), DM + glibenclamide (Group Su) and DM + saxagliptin (Group Sa). The day drug administration started was defined as week 0. After 12 weeks, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) , total cholesterol (...

Conclusions The 13-item DBII scale is appropriately short and possesses satisfactory validity and reliability for both insulin-naive and insulin-treated patients with T2DM. Healthcare providers may use this scale as a checklist to guide clinical discussions related to insulin therapy with both insulin-naive and insulin-treated patients with T2DM across time.

Amidst news of several Congressional hearings on the topic earlier in 2019, and continued protests by patient advocates outside of insulin manufacturers'headquarters, as well as persistent patient and caregiver complaints about runaway U.S. insulin prices in the U.S. media, a less-acknowledged change occurred which could impact what many patients with diabetes pay next year for insulin and testing supplies. It's not often that Americans would actually wish to THANK the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), but in 2020, perhaps many Americans with diabetes might wish to do that!On July 17, 2019, the IRS...

In this study, we investigated the effects of BPA on skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and insulin sensitivity. L6 myotubes were treated with BPA (1 nM–105 nM) during the last 24 h of differentiation. Following exposure to 105 nM of BPA, resting and maximal oxygen consumption rates were decreased, whereas mitochondrial proton leak was increased. Overall metabolic activity, measured by redox ability, was decreased in L6 myotubes exposed to 105 nM of BPA. At this concentration, insulin-stimulated glucose uptake was increased, which corresponded to an increased phosphorylation of the insulin signaling pro...
