Risk of Second Primary Malignancies in Patients with Follicular Lymphoma: A United States population-based study

Follicular Lymphoma (FL) is a common low grade lymphoma with excellent long term survival in the present era. We utilized the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) registry to identify patients with Follicular Lymphoma from 1992-2010 and study the incidence and risk factors for the development of Second Primary Malignancies (SPM). During a median follow up of 71 months, 1540 patients (9.9%) developed SPM, with a cumulative incidence of 11% at 10 years and an increased risk of both hematological as well as solid malignancies. This risk was significantly increased among patients>65 years, male and those receiving radiation therapy.
