Introduction to Publicly Available Knowledgebases to Aid Interpretations of Genomic Findings in Oncology

Many publicly accessible online tools are available to aid in genomics research and interpretation of clinical results. We have assembled a guide to orient the clinical user to the availability of these resources as well as provide a high-level overview to help define the appropriate resource to answer relevant genomic questions. This guide is meant to serve as a general introduction to several publicly available online tools and give examples of instances where each tool is most useful. Many tools focus on gene-level data; including Clinical Interpretations of Variants in Cancer (CiVIC), Database of Curated Mutations (DoCM), PeCan Data Portal, Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), Cornell Precision Medicine Knowledgebase (PMKB), International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), JAX Clinical Knowledgebase (CKB), cBioPortal for Cancer Genomics, Precision Oncology Knowledge Base (OncoKB), Integrative Onco Genomics (IntOGen), and Cancer Genome Interpreter.
