Abstract Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) usually arises during puberty and is marked by insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperandrogenism. The principle is that the diagnosis of PCOS must be based on the presence of at least two of the following three criteria: chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism (clinical or biological), and polycystic ovaries. The diagnosis of PCOS in adolescents is particularly difficult due to developmental problems in this group. Many symptoms of PCOS, including acne, menstrual irregularities, and hyperinsulinemia, are common in normal puberty. Adolescents with PCOS are at an incr...

ConclusionIn women with PCOS undergoing stimulated IUI, CC, letrozole and gonadotropins were equally effective and safe. Since multi-follicular growth increased the multiple pregnancy rates without increasing the overall live birth rate, ovulation induction would strictly aim for mono-follicular growth. Since letrozole had the highest mono-follicular growth rate, we recommend this drug as the treatment of first choice in infertile women undergoing ovulation induction and IUI.

Abstract Context: The impact of vitamin D deficiency on the success of ovarian stimulation according to underlying infertility diagnosis has not been investigated. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and reproductive outcomes after ovarian stimulation in women with either polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or unexplained infertility. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Setting: Analysis of randomized controlled trial (RCT) data. Participants: Participants from the Pregnancy in PCOS II RCT (n=607); participants from the Assessment of Multiple Intrauterine Gestation...

Abstract Context: Women with PCOS are at increased risk for pregnancy complications possibly related to pre-existing obesity and potentially to excessive gestational weight gain (GWG). Objectives: To assess the contributions of pre-existing diagnosis and preconception weight on GWG and perinatal outcomes. Research Design and Methods: Prospective cohort study of singleton pregnancies in PCOS(N =164) and ovulatory controls(N = 176) conceiving from infertility treatment. Main Outcome measures: GWG, birthweight, pregnancy complications. Results: From pre-conception baseline, normal-weight PCOS women gai...

Abstract Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) undergoing treatment for infertility could be a sensitive subpopulation for endocrine effects of exposure to perfluorinated alkyl acids (PFAAs), persistent organic pollutants with potential endocrine activity. Women with, PCOS (n = 30) and age- and BMI-matched controls (n = 29) were recruited from a UK fertility clinic in 2015. Paired serum and follicular fluid samples were collected and analysed for 13 PFAAs. Sex steroid and thyroid hormones, and metabolic markers were measured and assessed for associations with serum PFAAs. Four PFAAs were detected i...
