Healthcare Resource Availability, Quality of Care, and Acute Ischemic Stroke Outcomes Health Services and Outcomes Research

ConclusionsSignificant variation exists in regional availability of healthcare resources for acute ischemic stroke treatment, yet among Get With the Guidelines‐Stroke hospitals, quality of care and in‐hospital outcomes did not differ by regional resource availability.

We present the case of a 68 year-old man who was initially attended in emergency department with sudden onset diplopia. Neurological exploration revealed WEBINO and gait ataxia. Relevant medical history included liver transplantation and subsequent tacrolimus prescription. Complementary exams revealed ischemic lesion in mesencephalic tegmentum, involving medial longitudinal fasciculus and pretectal area. WEBINO syndrome is unfrequent. Among its etiologies, ischemic and demyelinating are the most frequent. In our case, iatrogenic etiology was also considered. Clinical recognition of this syndrome is required to perform adeq...

Publication date: Available online 24 February 2020Source: Pharmacology &TherapeuticsAuthor(s): Concetta Schiano, Giuditta Benincasa, Monica Franzese, Nunzia Della Mura, Katia Pane, Marco Salvatore, Claudio NapoliAbstractThe complex pathobiology underlying cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) has yet to be explained. Aberrant epigenetic changes may result from alterations in enzymatic activities, which are responsible for putting in and/or out the covalent groups, altering the epigenome and then modulating gene expression. The identification of novel individual epigenetic-sensitive trajectories at single cell level might pro...

(Regenstrief Institute) Patients with a transient ischemic attack (TIA), also known as mini-stroke, are at high risk of more vascular events, including repeated TIAs, stroke and death yet are less likely to be admitted to the hospital for treatment than patients with stroke. Hospital admission and being seen by a neurologist are associated with better quality care according to a new study.

(European Society of Cardiology) Different types of food are linked to risks of different types of stroke, according to the largest study to investigate this, published in the European Heart Journal. The study of more than 418,000 people in nine European countries investigated ischaemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke separately.

Discussion IAB is a rather frequent finding in the general population. IAB is a risk factor for AF and is associated with an increased risk of stroke or TIA independently of associated AF. Key messagesBoth partial and advanced interatrial block are associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation in the general population.Advanced interatrial block is an independent risk factor for stroke and transient ischemic attack. The clinical significance of interatrial block is dependent on the subtype classification. The aim of the current study was to ascertain whether a door to needle time of less than 60 min can be achieved for intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and maintained long term in a comprehensive stroke unit.MethodsPatients with AIS treated with IVT in t...

Authors: Heo GS, Sultan D, Liu Y Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide despite advances in diagnostic technologies and treatment strategies. The underlying cause of most CVD is atherosclerosis, a chronic disease driven by inflammatory reactions. Atherosclerotic plaque rupture could cause arterial occlusion leading to ischemic tissue injuries such as myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke. Clinically, most imaging modalities are based on anatomy and provide limited information about the on-going molecular activities affecting the vulnerability of atherosclerotic lesion for...
