However, there are seldom reports of compounds targeting this pathway with effective protection in animal models. Here, we identified emetine, an antiprotozoal drug, which inhibits EV-A71 with an EC50 value of 0.04 μM and a CC50 value of 10 μM in RD cell culture. Interestingly, emetine exhibits activities against a series of human enterov...

Abstract A 6-year-old girl presented with rhabdomyolysis following a febrile illness. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for Influenza B and enterovirus was positive. Her serum creatine kinase (CK) and myoglobin levels were very high. She developed myoglobinuria with oliguria leading to acute kidney injury. Continuous renal replacement therapy along with Cytosorb filter resulted in good outcome. PMID: 31729332 [PubMed - in process]

Dear editor, we read with interest the article (Multiplex PCR reveals high prevalence of enterovirus and HHV6 in acellular paediatric cerebrospinal fluid samples) by Lumley et el. published in this journal (1). We would like to share our experience with Enterovirus meningitis without pleocytosis in paediatrics.

In this study, the results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for viral agents were evaluated in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples taken from patients with CNS infection. CSF samples taken from 1185 patients between 2010 and 2017 were tested for the presence of Herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 and 2, Varicella Zoster virus (VZV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), adenovirus ve enterovirus by PCR in Dokuz Eylul University Hospital. Tests were performed according to the clinicians' orders and results were evaluated retrospectively. The number of tests performed were 1038 for HSV, 882 for adenovirus, 865 for e...

AbstractMicrobiological diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) infections is challenging due to limited access to CNS samples, overlap between meningitis and encephalitis, and the multiplicity of pathogens potentially involved. We aimed to estimate the impact of a commercial multiplex PCR assay (FilmArray ® meningitis/encephalitis) on the management of patients with suspicion of meningitis or encephalitis, in terms of time to diagnosis, antimicrobial agents use, duration of hospitalization, and costs. This prospective observational study was conducted at Saint Joseph Hospital (Paris, France) from De cember 2016 to D...

Enterovirus 71 (EV71 or EV-A71) was first identified in California about half a century ago. In recent years, outbreaks of EV-A71 were prevalent worldwide, including Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Chi...

Abstract Human Cosaviruses (HCoSVs) are relatively newly characterized picornaviruses; they have been described in non-polio acute flaccid paralysis, diarrheal patients, and healthy individuals. Previous studies showed HCoSV circulation in Tunisia and only six genotypes circulating in the country were reported. In the present study, we sequenced 27 complete VP1 genomic region from HCoSV isolates in human feces from healthy individuals and patients with acute flaccid paralysis in Tunisia. Most of the Tunisian sequences belong to species A (78%, 21 out of 27). Three sequences belong to species B, two to species E an...

In this study, the vp1 gene of Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and Coxsackievirus B3 (CB3) was inserted into the vector pET22b (+) to form the respective expression plasmids pEVP1 or pCVP1, and then transformed into Escherichia coli strain BL21 (DE3). The recombinant EVP1 or CVP1 protein was overexpressed successfully and effectively purified to homogeneity. Then, we identified that EVP1 and CVP1 protein could generate effectively specific humoral immunity and cellular immunity in mice, what's more, we determined the cross-protection of VP1 between EV71 and CB3 in a murine model. The results showed that immunization with EVP1 could ...

indy Böttcher Human enteroviruses and human parechoviruses are associated with a broad range of diseases and even severe and fatal conditions. For human cosaviruses, the etiological role is yet unknown. Little is known about the circulation of non-polio enteroviruses, human parechoviruses, and human cosaviruses in Nigeria. A total of 113 stool samples were collected from healthy individuals in Osun State between February 2016 and May 2017. RT-PCR assays targeting the 5′ non-coding region (5′ -NCR) were used to screen for human enteroviruses, human parechoviruses, and human cosaviruses. For huma...

We studied the sensitivity of domestic proprietary human and animal cell lines from the collection of M. P. Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immuneand-Biological Products to infection with different enterovirus 71 strains. A cell system based on domestic proprietary permanent cell line 4647 was for the first time used for reproduction of four enterovirus 71 strains (BrCr, 42266, 42934, and 43374). It was shown that strain 4647 is the optimal cell substrate for enterovirus 71 reproduction. The titers of enterovirus 71 for all four strains considerably (by 2 lgTCID50/ml and more) increased d...
