Scientists zero in on biological diversity in 'poor man's rainforest'

(Virginia Tech) Leftover DNA from dead organisms -- known as 'relic DNA' -- has historically thrown a wrench into estimates, causing scientists to overestimate microbial diversity by as much as 55 percent.
