Probiotic potential of < i > Bacillus licheniformis < /i > isolated from indigenous traditional fermented beverage

In this study, a potential probiotic microorganism A3 isolated fromAngoori was subjected to probiotic characterization. The isolate A3 was identified asBacillus licheniformis. The strain showed broad antagonism against most pathogens, good auto-aggregation capacity, i.e., greater than 40% after 5 hrs, high acid tolerance showing survival of 75.4 % atpH 1.0 for 60 min and bile salt tolerance ranging from 80.16% to 84.41%. The isolate was found to be highly sensitive towards all the 16 antibiotics tested. These results indicated thatB. licheniformis A3 isolated fromAngoori had a promising potential as good probiotic and could further be exploited for its commercial use. Description: 153-157
