Re: Agarwal et al Stylomandibular fusion that complicates recurrent bilateral ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint

We describe a patient who presented with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva and extrinsic ankylosis of the joint associated with various bony fusions between the base of the skull and lower jaw, and suggest an evolutionary meaning for these anomalies.
