New UAB program eyes transplant breakthroughs

The University of Alabama at Birmingham has recruited another leading transplant expert as it ramps up its new xenotransplantation program, which aims to complete a successful pig-to-human kidney transplant by 2021. Dr. David K.C. Cooper, a longtime leading expert in the xenotransplantation field, joined UAB on Nov. 1 to co-direct the Xenotransplant Program alongside Dr. Joseph Tector.
