Pediatric patients undergoing arteriovenous fistula surgery without intraoperative heparin.

CONCLUSIONS: We found no benefit of heparin administration during clamping the arteries while performing the arteriovenous fistula in pediatric patients. PMID: 27646929 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: Percutaneous ultrasound-guided thrombolytic injection in native hemodialysis fistulas is a rapid, practical, repeatable treatment method that is received on an outpatient basis with low risk of bleeding, and prevents unnecessary endovascular interventions or surgical operations. Conclusion: The results suggest that an immunosuppressive state develops at the terminal stage of severe leptospirosis with pulmonary hemorrhage and shock similar to that of patients with septic shock, with diffuse endothelial activation in the spleen, splenitis, and signs of disturbance in the innate and adaptive immunity in the spleen. The presence of leptospiral antigens in 73% of the spleens of the leptospirosis patients suggests the etiological agent contributes directly to the pathogenesis of the lesions. Our results support therapeutic approaches involving antibiotic and immunomodulatory treatments for leptospirosis...

AbstractObjectiveTo provide updated evidence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare citrate lock with heparin in the prevention of hemodialysis catheter-related complications.MethodsA systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials were obtained by searching PubMed, EMBASE, Ovid, Cochrane library, and the Web of Science databases. Primary outcomes were catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBI), exit-site infections, bleeding events, catheter removal for poor flow, and thrombolytic treatment. Secondary outcomes were thrombocytopenia, access-related admission, and all-cause mo...

CONCLUSION:: Arteriovenous fistula (re)construction with CorMatrix seems to be feasible and safe, with a relatively high incidence of neointimal hyperplasia, predominantly at venous anastomoses, but additional clinical studies are needed. PMID: 30722717 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Rationale: As survival prospects improve for long-term patients with hemodialysis, it is common for patients to exhaust all upper extremity access options before other avenues need exploration. The purpose of this case report was to describe our experience in creating a prosthetic graft between left femoral artery and right femoral vein in a patient with history of central venous occlusion and bilateral femoral neck fracture. Patient concerns: A female patient with hemodialysis exhausted all upper extremity access options along with bilateral femoral neck fracture. Diagnoses: Patients with end-stage renal disease e...

ConclusionAntiplatelet agents but not wafarin might reduce the vascular access thrombosis rate. The gastrointestinal bleeding rate was increased in the group using clopidogrel. Aggrenox should be used with caution in young individuals since it might increase the rate of intracerebral hemorrhage. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

CONCLUSIONS: In CKD patients with an AVF, there is moderate certainty that ω-3FA supplementation makes little or no difference to preventing patency loss; and in patients with an AVG, it is very uncertain that ω-3FA supplementation prevents patency loss within 12 months. Abstract An 87-year-old man with diabetes mellitus was admitted to control recurrent bleeding from hemodialysis puncture sites. He was a smoker and had been diagnosed with arteriosclerosis obliterans. His PT and APTT were markedly prolonged, and all coagulation factors were markedly decreased (factor V [FV] activity

Calciphylaxis is a disease of dermal arteriolar calcification that results in necrosis. It commonly occurs in individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis and is associated with a high morbidity and mortality. Warfarin use is an identified risk factor. Twenty patients with ESRD on dialysis with calciphylaxis who were treated with apixaban for indications of deep vein thrombosis or atrial fibrillation were identified. There were no reports of thrombosis. Three individuals experienced bleeding requiring a transfusion, and anticoagulation was resumed without further event. Findings suggest that apixaban may...
