Significant research in recent years has enabled the development of programs that are effective and targeted to specific populations for reducing the risk of an alcohol-exposed pregnancy, in turn preventing FASDs. Thus, while prevention, identification, and treatment of FASDs continue to be at the core of this work, an increased emphasis on training practicing health care professionals and primary prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancies is also a highlight.
