Russian scientists develop a minimally traumatic and inexpensive ceramic laser scalpel

(Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) The newly created technology shows an effectiveness more than twice as high as any of the previously developed solid state lasers.Another important feature of this laser is that the generated light has a wavelength of 2 microns, which is the exact wavelength used in surgery.Devices based on this technology are expected to be approximately fours times smaller than the ones, currently used by surgeons. They will also be much cheaper and more reliable.
