We are pleased our paper1 has raised questions and interest. We completely agree with Gokalp et al.2 that blood transfusion can be a significant trigger for post-operative complications. In a previous study, we have already identified blood transfusions as a significant predictor of acute kidney injury (AKI) after thoracic aortic endovascular repair (TEVAR), and evaluated the probability of AKI occurrence in relation to the number of blood units transfused in the peri-operative period.3 In the present study, we included blood transfusions in the analysis as well.
