BLM OR-WA: Beaty Butte Wild Horse Gather, Fertility Control, and Training Assistance Program, Lakeview District, OR

The objective of this program is to successfully capture, treat with PZP (for fertility control), train, and adopt out excess wild horses from the BLM Beaty Butte Heard Management Area in order to maintain the heard management area (HMA) at the optimal appropriate management level (AML). PUBLIC BENEFIT: By maintaining the wild horse populations within their AML a thriving natural ecological balance is maintained improving maintenance of rangeland resources for multiple uses by the public. BLM financial assistance will help increase the number of adopted horses, reduce the number of horses in the HMA, reduce or remove the need for future large gathers, and ultimately reduce the overall cost to the public of managing the Beaty Butte HMA.
