Can deaths in police cells be prevented? Experience from Norway and death rates in other countries - Aasebø W, Orskaug G, Erikssen J.
PURPOSE: To describe the changes in death rates and causes of deaths in Norwegian police cells during the last 2 decades. To review reports on death rates in police cells that have been published in medical journals and elsewhere, and discuss the difficult...

CONCLUSIONS: Both WFO and WFG PRK using a Schwind Amaris 750S laser for low to moderate myopia were safe and effective at improving visual and refractive outcomes. However, WFG PRK induced fewer spherical aberrations than WFO PRK and may be more advantageous for eyes with high HOA root mean square or spherical aberration. PMID: 32495529 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSIONS: Patients are not always aware of the risk of oral cancer. Accurate information should be provided to patients as well as to specialists rather than just dentists as regard as the risk factors for oral cancer, the importance of referral to specialized departments and timing. The use of new technologies should be widespread. PMID: 32489088 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
[Daily Maverick] Government has under-estimated how much the banning of alcohol and cigarettes boosted illicit trade. With alcohol now back on sale, it would be good for the country if the ban on tobacco products was lifted as soon as possible.
Abstract Alkenes and ketones are two classes of ubiquitous, toxic organic compounds in natural environments produced in several biological and anthropogenic processes. In spite of their toxicity, these compounds are utilized as primary carbon and energy sources or are generated as intermediate metabolites in the metabolism of other compounds by many diverse bacteria. The aerobic metabolism of some of the smallest and most volatile of these compounds (propylene, acetone, isopropanol) involves novel carboxylation reactions resulting in a common product acetoacetate. Propylene is metabolized in a four-step pathway in...
CONCLUSION: the proportion of admissions due to decompensated HCV-related cirrhosis has decreased by almost 30 % since the introduction of the DAA. In addition, the characteristics of patients admitted have changed since the application of interferon-free regimens. PMID: 32496126 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSION: our study suggested that GLP-1RAs may improve LFF, BMI and adiponectin in patients with NAFLD. Furthermore, the potential efficacy to treat NAFLD was also shown. More high-quality RCTs are needed to validate our findings. PMID: 32496108 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Authors: Thuy LTT, Hai H, Kawada N Abstract Cytoglobin (Cygb), a stellate cell-specific globin, has recently drawn attention due to its association with liver fibrosis. In the livers of both humans and rodents, Cygb is expressed only in stellate cells and can be utilized as a marker to distinguish stellate cells from hepatic fibroblast-derived myofibroblasts. Loss of Cygb accelerates liver fibrosis and cancer development in mouse models of chronic liver injury including diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocellular carcinoma, bile duct ligation-induced cholestasis, thioacetamide-induced hepatic fibrosis, and choline-de...
