Change of Ultrasound Estimated Bladder Weight and Bladder Wall Thickness After Treatment of Bladder Outlet Obstruction With Dutasteride

ConclusionsThere was no change in UEBW, UEBW/BSA and BWT despite improving most clinical parameters suggesting BOO. The changes of bladder wall hypertrophy parameters still have limitations to directly reflect the relief of BOO.

ConclusionsGiant parathyroid adenoma is a rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism and usually presents symptomatically  with high calcium and parathyroid hormone levels. Giant parathyroid adenoma is diagnosed by imaging and laboratory studies. Management is typically surgical, aiming at complete resection. Patients usually recover with no long-term complications or recurrence.

Conclusion: In newborns with large and persistent unesthetic cephalohematoma, puncture under local anesthesia with oral sucrose can be safely proposed between day 15 and day 30 after birth. What is Known:•Infant cephalohematoma is a frequent pathology of newborns, consisting of a traumatic subperiosteal hematoma of the skull. Most cephalohematomas are small and require no treatment because they spontaneously disappear within the first month.•Large and non-resorptive cephalohematomas may have significant esthetic and functional consequences. What is New:•Early puncture under local anesthesia is a safe, effectiv...

In this study, we conducted a series of experiments to compare the accuracy and feasibility of three measurement methods: time of flight method (TOF), ultrasonic water immersion method (UWI) and UFSA. The methods were applied to measure polymeric parts with different surface roughnesses; in addition, experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of an external disturbance and to characterize the micro structure. Error analyses were performed for the methods. The experimental results showed that the TOF method was only suitable for measuring polymeric parts with flat surfaces, whereas the UWI and UFSA methods performed ...

Unlike Star Wars projection, 3D technology whips polystyrene bead round at high speedIt may not rival the technology found in a galaxy far, far away, but everyone has to start somewhere. Researchers in Southampton have built a device that displays 3D animated objects that can talk and interact with onlookers.A demonstration of the display showed a butterfly flapping its wings, a countdown spelled out by numbers hanging in the air, and a rotating, multicoloured planet Earth. Beyond interactive digital signs and animations, scientists want to use it to visualise and even feel data.Continue reading...

ConclusionsDuplex ultrasound has significant limitations in the initial evaluation of patients with suspected SCV thrombosis, with false-negative results in 21% of patients with proven VTOS. This is rarely acknowledged in ultrasound reports, but false-negative ultrasound studies have the potential to delay definitive imaging, thrombolysis, and further treatment for VTOS. Initial false-negative ultrasound results are associated with progressive thrombus extension and a more frequent need for SCV bypass reconstruction at the time of surgical treatment.Graphical Abstract

ConclusionMesenteric cysts represent a rare cause of intra-abdominal mass. Owing to low prevalence, literature is limited as is guidance on management. Careful pre-operative planning is essential so as to avoid operative complications. Imaging such as USS is of great importance; however Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) may be of more benefit, owing to the complex anatomical relations within which mesenteric cysts can present. Surgical excision is widely reported as the surgical treatment of choice for symptomatic cysts

Publication date: Available online 13 November 2019Source: Arthroscopy TechniquesAuthor(s): Elizabeth A. Bardowski, J. W. Thomas ByrdAbstractPiriformis syndrome is an elusive condition that likely is overlooked and overdiagnosed in equal proportions. Image-guided injection of the muscle is an essential element in the assessment and management of this disorder. Ultrasonography allows visualization of the anatomy of the piriformis and its relation with the sciatic nerve. Ultrasound-guided injection of the muscle can be performed in an effective, reproducible fashion and, with careful attention to the details of the procedure...
