Comprehensive analysis of information processing speed components in patients with Parkinson's disease

Background: Information processing slowness is common among patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the nature of this impairment is not yet known. In summary, it may be a consequence of the motor slowing characteristics of the disease or it may be secondary to the cognitive deficits that also frequently occur among PD patients. Different components of information processing speed have been distinguished, which can help establish the origin of such slowing down, such as reaction time, perceptual speed, psychomotor speed, and psychological speed, but they have been scarcely measured together in PD.
