GLP1 Receptor Agonists and Post –Endoscopic Aspiration Pneumonia: What Plays a Role in Clinical Practice?

We read with great interest the recent article by Yeo et  al,1 which revealed that the use of glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) is linked to an increased risk of aspiration pneumonia after gastrointestinal endoscopy. They performed a population-based retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX data set to investigate the risk of post– endoscopic aspiration pneumonia in subjects receiving GLP-1RAs. The final examination included 798,352 subjects who underwent endoscopy, of which 778,253 were GLP-1RA nonusers and 20,099 were GLP-1RA users.
