Cost-utility analysis of prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomy for primary angle closure suspects

Primary angle closure (PAC) disease (PACD) occurs when trabecular meshwork and aqueous outflow obstruction predisposes to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), formation of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS), and, potentially, glaucomatous optic neuropathy. The goal of PACD management is to prevent or reverse angle closure and control IOP to prevent acute angle closure (AAC) crisis and PAC glaucoma (PACG). Prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is traditionally considered on PAC suspects (PACS) to prevent pupillary block and open the anatomic angle.
