Optimization of Graphene-Based Square Slotted Surface Plasmon Resonance Refractive Index Biosensor for Accurate Detection of Pregnancy

AbstractThis paper presents a biosensor proposed for pregnancy detection leveraging on the refractive indices of urine. A refractive index is a parameter that is affected by the fluctuation of hormones during pregnancy. We apply simulations performed with COMSOL Multiphysics to develop the biosensor for pregnancy detection. The proposed sensor demonstrates an optimum sensitivity of 2000 GHzRIU−1. This is a clear indication that this technique can be successfully used on all ranges of analyte concentrations. Besides this, the sensor has a low figure of merit (FOM) value of 4.225 RIU−1. This excellent performance parameter demonstrates the sensor ’s operation in a wide range of environmental conditions. The sensor proposed to be set intentionally for pregnancy detection demonstrates the idea of its fast detection and non-invasiveness. In addition to this, it provides vast opportunities for its application in medicine.
