Long-term efficacy analysis of radiotherapy and local management of metastases in patients with newly diagnosed oligometastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma: A prospective, single-arm, single-center clinical study

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is highly sensitive to radiotherapy, and the 5-year survival rate commonly exceeds 80  % after radio-chemotherapy[1]. Distant metastases are always the main challenges, wherein 4–10 % NPC patients experience synchronous distant metastasis at first diagnosis, which lacks standard treatment[2]. However, metastatic NPC is a highly heterogenous disease with different clinical behav iors, and newly diagnosed metastatic NPC (m-NPC) is completely different from post-treatment m-NPC given the discussion on the value of local regional radiotherapy (LRRT) after palliative chemotherapy.
