Radiation dose assessment of thorium-containing gas mantle in consideration of usage status in Republic of Korea

This study developed predictable exposure scenarios for thorium-containing gas mantles throughout their life cycle, considering their usage status in the Republic of Korea, and assessed the radiation dose for each scenario. Our results showed that radiation doses in various scenarios, including transport, distribution, usage, and disposal, as well as in low-probability accident scenarios, consistently remained below the regulatory exemption standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Therefore, we concluded that the exemption regulation for the gas mantle is valid under current circumstances in the ROK.
