Healthcare Pollution Quiz

The healthcare sector produces 8.5% of US greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) at an estimated annual loss of 388,000 disability-adjusted life years.1 To measure GHGs, life cycle assessment studies use a “cradle to grave” approach, which calculates all emissions that occur during the production, transportation, and use of an item or service.2 Because fossil fuels remain a major source of electricity, energy consumption for heating, cooling, and ventilation are a leading cause of GHGs in healthca re facilities.
