Labour: a pain for informed consent?

Legally, valid consent in England and Wales requires the patient to receive information about reasonable alternative treatments, in a way which is intelligible to them.1 It is perhaps ironic that the obstetric surgery case that gave rise to this requirement, Montgomery, is yet to be realised in obstetric anaesthesia.
