Pulsed Field Ablation: A Promise with Future Broad-based Applicability or a Pause needing Further Analysis
Recent scientific data has positioned pulsed-field ablation (PFA) as a possible replacement for traditional AF ablation approaches delivering radiofrequency or cryoablation thermal energy. PFA uses non-thermal, high-voltage electrical fields applied to cardiac tissue to create nanopores in the cellular membrane that disrupt cellular integrity, resulting in cellular necrosis and irreversible electroporation (IRE).
