When an Immunization Stress-Related Response Interrupts a School-Based Vaccination Program: The Case of France

France has been struggling with negative perceptions surrounding vaccine safety for years due to various controversies and incidents. These events have eroded public trust in vaccines and led to a decrease in vaccination rates. One such example is the hepatitis B vaccination campaign in schools in 1998. It was disrupted following a controversy about a supposed link between the vaccine and multiple sclerosis, four years after its launch [1]. This failure left a lasting impression on public opinion and decision-makers [2], to the extent that no vaccination program was introduced in schools for the next 25  years.
