Time to diagnosis and its predictors in syndromes associated with Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration
Refinement of diagnostic criteria has significantly improved diagnostic accuracy of syndromes associated with Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration in tertiary referral centers [1]. However, the time to diagnosis, i.e. the difference between the time in which one of the core symptoms was first noted and the time in which a diagnosis of FTLD-associated syndrome is made, relies on disease awareness and recognition of one of the possible FTLD symptoms by general practitioners or primary care centers. Reducing the time to diagnosis might result in a timely initiation of symptomatic treatment, early involvement in clinical trials testing disease-modifying treatments, and ultimately may result in more adequate public health policies for patients and their families.
