Uvuloplasty during soft palate cleft reconstruction

The uvula has been a subject of contradictory observations.1 The aesthetic reconstruction of the uvula during soft palate cleft reconstruction is an important outcome measure from the parents ’ perspective.2 It therefore should be repaired during palatoplasty. The conventional method for uvula repair involves suturing the two hemi-uvulas together, often resulting in a displaced, small, scarred, and contracted uvula. Techniques of uvuloplasty have been described to create a more aesthet ically appearing uvula.
