Changes in Global Longitudinal Strain as a Predictor of Cardiotoxicity after Exposure to Carfilzomib
Multiple myeloma (MM) is associated with higher rates of adverse cardiac events1. Carfilzomib (CFZ) is a proteosome inhibitor approved for the treatment of relapsed and refractory MM and has known cardiotoxic effects. Global longitudinal strain (GLS) is an echocardiographic method often employed to identify subclinical left ventricular dysfunction that precedes declines in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), commonly seen after treatment with other cardiotoxic agents, such as anthracyclines2.
